About
About the Hartlepool Post.
The Hartlepool Post began its life as High Tax Hartlepool in 2002. A group of friends out for a drink in the Jacksons Wharf on Hartlepool Marina found themselves talking about Hartbeat, Hartlepool Council’s propaganda magazine. In particular, they talked about the small piece within the magazine informing us the that the local council tax was about to go up by another 4.9%. They were especially struck by the fact that the council tax piece, which occupied barely one column inch, had been printed in a smaller typeface than the rest of the page - the classic ‘small-print’
With a few IT people around the table, it was suggested that a website to publicise just how high the level of council tax in Hartlepool was compared to other local authorities seemed a good idea and so the domain high-tax-hartlepool.co.uk was launched on September 2nd, 2002.
The name was changed to The Hartlepool Post in 2012 after realising over a long period of time that there were far more things about Hartlepool Council that needed publicising beyond its extraordinary high level of council tax.
The site now regularly receives over 150,000 visitors a month. The Hartlepool Post actively supports Independent Councillors and those who show themselves capable of thinking independently. There are currently around nine regular contributors to the site with more people contributing on an occasional basis.
The Hartlepool Post is run as a non-profit site supported entirely by personal contributions and a few Google Ads.
