GNASHER'S SPRING
Published 7th June, 2019
Gnasher, the Middleton poster boy, celebrated his second birthday in early May amidst the ongoing turmoil of a 'house move'. Gnasher's shown in the above photo - along with Mammie (his mother) and his sister, Felix. Felix is a female cat but is a real tomboy when it comes to getting into mischief (and play fighting with Gnasher). Regarding the 'house move', the whole colony's recently faced a major upheaval when their base (and that of the Middleton Cabin owners) was razed to the ground by HBC in accordance with the now lapsed lease with PD Ports.
Although this has been highly traumatic for all involved, Gnasher & co. have (in the usual feline fashion) adapted surprisingly well to the cabins being moved. Planning permission is being sought which, if granted, will then mean the cabins being re-lifted & brought back into use (a precarious job as some are very fragile). While they're in storage Gnasher's learned how to climb a ladder onto the cabin roofs (and even managed to get back down again)! The combination of fences, barriers and crammed together cabins has become a regular feline adventure playground. All of the cat contingent is highly relieved to know that the food supply hasn't dried up and that they're still being looked after, though. So, with plenty to eat plus the warmer weather - as well as lots of hiding (and sleeping) places - Gnasher's spring has proved a challenge but he's coping OK. Now we have to hope that the human element of the community are afforded the same peace of mind.
